An Iconoclast is someone who challenges tradition, dogma, the “norm”. Anyone who knows Charles Joly and his background that has brought him to the forefront of the mixology scene in Chicago would agree that he is an Iconoclast. Well now the Sundance Channel has recognized him and 11 other members of the Bartenders Guild by featuring them in an Iconoclast series entitled “Beyond the Bar.” Charles and his life story will be told in a mini-documentary as part of the series that will showcase how these mixologists have influenced their community and their industry.
Charles has always sought out new ingredients, techniques, and tools to incorporate into his trade. Most recently he has utilized a smoker to add additional flavor and aroma to his Smoke and Mirrors cocktail, that won him the top award in the Cabana Cachaca competition.
