Seventy – seven years ago, the wise people of the United States Congress voted to repeal the “Noble Experiment” known as Prohibition. Celebrate this momentous day in the history of cocktails in the Drawing Room this Saturday, December 4th with a night of pre-prohibition cocktails and period music. Soak in the wealth of knowledge the Master Bartenders have to share about the impact this day in history had on American society and the history of the cocktail.
After years of hidden speakeasies and crime driven empires controlling the flow of alcohol in America, alcohol was once again made legal on December 5th, 1933. All cocktail recipes are defined by that date. Any drinks created after that date are considered “modern cocktails.” All recipes before the end of Prohibition are considered “Classic” or “Pre-Prohibition.” In honor of this date in cocktail history, the Drawing Room will focus on Pre-Prohibition recipes as well as serving up our new fall/winter cocktail menu.
